I never knew I needed this until now. My life is complete.

I’ve forgotten all the words to the original version but I just confirmed that I do indeed remember all the words to “Amish Paradise.”

When I was a wee girl growing up in Lancaster County, PA “Amish Paradise” came out and was a monster hit locally, as you would expect. The song was so popular that the local radio station would play it every half an hour. Once the backlash started, the local “wacky” evening dj went legitimately crazy and locked himself in the booth and played “Amish Paradise” on air for at least 6 hours. Even the local cop who would do the traffic updates on the morning show called in and tried to talk him down. I went to bed and the song was on repeat, and when I woke up the next morning the dj was in jail. That’s my Amish Paradise story, enjoy.

Very romantic and a little dreamy. I think this would be a gorgeous outfit to wear in September in prelude for the Moon festival.

9 frames out of the 26 Arin Hanson animated here do not make enough justice, but gosh dang, this guy has just gotten better and better in technique.

He does not only use extreme differences in each still but also makes completely different faces in between, and they actually fucking work.

I want to see more people animate like this.

this is why it’s pissing me off so much that people are acting like Pokeawesome 2 was some kind of huge disappointment.

Arin is an incredibly skilled animator and an extremely talented artist, and when average viewers look at web cartoons, they often don’t appreciate the time, effort, and sheer talent it takes to create something like this. All they care about is if “the joke was funny” or not. He did this for FREE, though. He did this because he wanted to, and because he COULD. Not because anyone on the internet was entitled to it. With a webtoon like this, the joke is entirely secondary to the animation. And the animation on this is stunning. It’s a work of art in and of itself.

The world needs more artists like Arin Hanson. And the world needs to appreciate the one we have in the meantime.

I hate this entitlement that people feel towards the creations of others. It’s hard to do anything creative; even more so to create a hit, and then be expected to consistently make hits thereafter. He and Jon even talk about people’s expectations and the difficulties of having a creative career in one of today’s episodes (4/12/13). It’s rather disgusting that people can’t appreciate the time and effort he puts into his work.

Also, for webcomic artists: please don’t apologize for not updating or something if you’re injured or sick; you’re putting comics out pretty consistently and a majority of your audience is enjoying it free of charge.

I gotta say something. Yes the animation is good, it’s damn good. Arin is getting more and more talented with every short he produces. But when you say that you “hate this entitlement that people feel towards the creations of others”, or “this is why it’s pissing me off so much that people are acting like Pokeawesome 2 was some kind of huge disappointment”, I do have to ask if we watched the same cartoon? Because I personally was incredibly disappointed with it, not with the animation, but with the punchline which I felt ruined everything the cartoon was before it. The animation was fine… it was the mediocre joke at the end implying that Ash was owning Brock by fucking his woman. Really? That’s how you’re going to end it? The rest of the short? It was fine. The conversation between Brock and Ash did feel very genuine, and I liked that. Broke being bothered all the way to bed by a moral dilemma? Very good part of the story. Then suddenly out of nowhere Ash is there to fuck his girl, and thus not only beats it home that he is better than Brock, but he’s sticking it to his manhood? I’m sorry, but this punchline was bad. It was tasteless. It ruined the short as a whole for me because it had all been leading up to this: a chauvinistic joke in bad taste. Not all the amazing animation in the world can make a film or short can fix the reaction I felt. The same goes for any film made by anyone - incredible animation does not justify a bad story. And while you can argue that the only time the story turns truly sour is at the last minute with that joke, it is the last image we’re left with - It’s the moneyshot, so yes, it’s going to have a lot of impact. In this case, the impact was lasting and not in a positive way.

Arin’s work as a whole? He’s an extremely talented animator and filmmaker. EXTREMELY talented. He’s made amazing work. Even this short has some golden moments in it. But these were my two cents.

Last thought: Did he do it for free? I thought he made his money off of adspace and tshirt sales. I might be wrong and I apologize for that, but if it’s true that he makes money off of adspace alone, I can say that he most definitely did not do this without receiving some kind of financial sum that is continuously growing from this.

Here, here! I totally agree with the final statement. Great art may be great, but great art isn’t the only thing that will justify a joke (especially a bad one).
